5 Common Marketing Mistakes

We are human. We make mistakes. Especially in the field of marketing, even the experts make mistakes.

The current landscape of the digital marketing world is forever shifting, and it is now currently filled with more exciting opportunities than ever.

Today I would like to share with you 5 common marketing mistakes I see on a regular basis. I have included some tips on how to harness the current opportunities available in order to lead your consumers to conversion instead of driving them away.

1. Treat marketing as an expense vs. an investment.

An expense is something you buy that depreciates. An investment is something you purchase that delivers value in the future. Reshape your perspective around promoting your business. Marketing is a crucial catalyst when it comes to spurring growth and creating new opportunities.

2. Lack of a strong online presence.

These days, consumers have become accustomed to finding things online. The current fundamentals of a strong online presence include your website, social media, and email marketing. With competition at an all time high, it has never been so important to stay ahead of the game and utilise each opportunity to its highest potential. Use these vital platforms to tell your story and promote your brand.

3. Not incorporating video into your marketing strategy.

Keep up with your competitors! A survey conducted by Wyzowl states: “Video continues to be used by an overwhelming majority of businesses. 91% of businesses use video as a marketing tool in 2023. This is an all-time high since we started tracking this data in 2016.”
Video is so effective in the way that it allows consumers to educate and be informed of your business or brand in a quick, versatile and entertaining manner. These days consumers are predominantly visual learners, so it is important to use this to your advantage.

4. Trying to sell to everyone.

Define your target audience and demographic. Focus on a specific groups needs and interests. Find people with problems that your product or service can help with. Listen to to the needs of your audience and target solutions to solve them.

5. Believing customer service is a thing of the past.

Too many businesses these days overlook good customer service. Customers are human beings who still require appreciation and a feeling of being valued. They are the ones who pay the bills so be empathetic, thank them and show your appreciation where possible. Try to personalize your appreciation and gratitude. Happy customers remain loyal and will refer other customers. Seek to create strong bonds with them.
